It's official...

I am a "lovable Iceland music nerd". I am nice. I am also important and busy. I know all this because I have read this excellent interview with me, it's amazing what I can learn. I had great fun, I did almost feel important being on the other end of an interview for once. So... hello and welcome if you've found iceblah as a result of the interview. And thanks to the lovely Valgeir and thanks to the "official airline of iceblah" (!!!), Iceland Express  and their lovely blog (check back regularly, my face won't greet you for long, it will get better). Seriously, it is great to see that blog, and how Iceland Express are showing an interest in Icelandic music these days. Obviously Icelandair have long been supporters of the scene and the annual festival, I really hope that Iceland Express continue to support the scene.

Now then, it's not that I don't like Pall Oskar, I just know nothing about him beyond his song ""Thu Komst Vid Hjartad I Mer" which has been covered in live shows and on record by Hjaltalin, and now again by Retro Stefson... and it's a fabulous song. Compare and contrast here.

Secondly. Mugison isn't cute? Clearly I don't mean visually (!) that's not for me to judge. There's a nice picture ---> you can clearly see the answer for yourself. I meant he isn't part of that 'cute' style that often gets associated with Icelandic music. I hope he's not cross. That awesome piece of work, Mugiboogie, ain't cute - its balls out rock. Yes?

Finally, I've just realised that iceblah has made it to wikipedia. Thanks, to whover described this site as respected as part of this very intelligent entry on Iceland Airwaves 2009, and the will they/won't they issue. I wish I knew. The article mentions an article that appeared in Music Week magazine in February. You need to be a subscriber to access that article onine (and I'm not), but the headline is "Iceland Woes Fail To Fell Airwaves" and the subtitle is "October-held Festival To Go Ahead". Promising, but who knows? And if you do know...tell me!

I don't know if this helps at all but I emailed Thorsteinn Stephensen of Mr. Destiny to ask about the inconsistent dates between the Mr. Destiny site and the Airwaves site and he said that the dates on the Iceland Airwaves site are the correct ones (October 14 - 18). Unfortunately for me, I have already purchased two tickets on Icelandair for the following week, based on the date on the Mr. Destiny website. I emailed him again to see if there is anything he can do to help me get the dates for my tickets corrected. I've been going to the festival for the last three years and I would hate to miss it.
